Once I read the first trilogy, I couldn't stop.
Best series I've read. By far. |
Only prolem I have with him is that sometimes his writing gets repetitive across his books...that being said I started with The Thousand Orcs and now own about a dozen of his books _________________

I read the Dark Elf Trilogy when I was in high school and really enjoyed it. I started Friday evening and was finished the series by Sunday afternoon. It was one of the few books that I (literally) couldn't put down.
I tried to read some of the other books, but I found they lost their appeal. Like others have pointed out, the repetition is a little too obvious. "Oh, no! Orcs! Oh nevermind, Drizzt is here with his snazy cat." Yawn. _________________ Maladjusted introvert seeks same for long awkward silence. Crippling self doubt a plus. pst.

If you like vamp stories, and if you liked Twilight.... then I have a book series that surpasses Twilight and it's author by a million miles.
The House of Night series.
6 books are out at the moment.
Book 7 comes out in April.
They say 12 books will be in total.
Here is their web site.

I'll pass that along to my wife. She's vampire crazy for some reason. And the more books she has to read the more WoW time I get. Yay! _________________ Ryaan

love this post... late to the game but...
+1 for Dresden, Black Company, and Codex Alera... can't wait for Changes...
I am anxiously awaiting the next Song of Fire and Ice installment. Release date 2015?
I personally thought that Gathering Storm is one of the best (except Mat's POV)... Brandon Sanderson's other books are pretty good too. There is a trilogy (can't remember the name) that had a pretty unique set of 'magic' rules using metals.
Some series's i didn't see:
Kate Elliots Crown of Stars... 'epic' fantasy... I actually put it just behind Song of Fire and Ice. Alain is one of my all time favorite characters in any book. Best of all... it's finished! Probably my top recommendation on here. All of the books except one are very strong.
Sword of Truth ... Terry Goodkind... this one is decent... he gets very... preachy with some of his concepts. But, it's entertaining... 10k pages... and, again, finished.
I'm a huge fan of Raymond Feist. These are not deep and complex books. But, they are a hell of a lot of fun. Start with Magician: Apprentice and I can almost guarantee you'll be hooked. Unless you hate fun.
Dave Duncan's Blades books. Super formulaic. However, the first few are rather entertaining. Stand alone books. Least of my recommendations.
E. E. Knights Vampire Earth series... not exactly fantasy... semi-sci fi ish... aliens take over the earth, but not in a sci-fi tech way. These are my travel books
I hate to put this on here because i'm going to assume everyone has read it... but if you haven't read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card... please do so. Seriously. Also, the Ender's Shadow series is good, Pastwatch... you can't go wrong with OSC. Ender's Game is my all-time favorite book.
I'm actually bookless atm. Just read through this random Green Rider series... I might try to pick up one of the Tremaine books... that 1632 series looks cool too. Any other suggestions?
If someone wants some more random books, hit me up in game |

Even though it's an old series I have to give props to Stephen King and "The Dark Tower" series... If you haven't read it its very addictive and a good read. _________________

Guy Gavriel Kay, who is undoubtedly the best fantasy author of our times, has just released a new book, Under Heaven. It's magnificent. His earlier works are also well worth the read, particularly The Lions of Al-Rassan, A Song for Arbonne, Tigana and Ysabel. _________________ Durenthal (warrior tank)

Didn't see it listed, and, yes, it's written by an unlikely author, but "The Eyes of the Dragon" by Stephen King has always been one of my favorite fantasy books. _________________

I've also been waiting for G.R.R. Martin to finish his series. Since A Game of Thrones is possibly going into production as a miniseries on HBO, it might be awhile.
I still need to read the final book of the Sword of Truth, Confessor. There are two books by Scott Lynch (The Lies of Locke Lamora, Red Seas Under Red Skies) and a book called Winterbirth that I own but havn't gotten very far into. When I'm playing WoW it's hard for me to read much, but during my various breaks that I've taken I've gone through several series. |

I hear that. I try to make some time to read before I go to bed each night, but invariably I fall prey to the "I'll just bang out one more Heroic for my alt" virus. _________________ Ryaan
